project new friend.
Bridging generations, combating loneliness.
The recent statistic "Nationally, six out of ten residents in senior living communities never have a visitor" highlights the need to address senior isolation and increase volunteer recruitment.
We want to do something about this issue so we decided to make this a family project and start in our backyard - Los Angeles (a very big backyard!) so myself (Adrienne) and twin daughters (Emma & India) have partnered with several senior living facilities in the LA area to create Project New Friend. Our mission is bridge generations and combat loneliness.
Today, the need is growing as baby boomers are beginning to enter retirement facilities, and seniors are residing not just in senior living communities but also in adult family homes. To address this need, Project New Friend has expanded its service area to include visitation to senior living facilities in the state of California.
To recruit our next generation of volunteers, we have developed Project New Friend that will bring volunteers together with senior citizens in local senior living facilities.
Volunteers and seniors will meet 1-2 times per month, one-on-one for a minimum of 6 months. It is truly our hope that these become lifelong friendships valued by both generations.
We hope Project New Friend will inspire compassion, benefiting both generations and understanding of the attitudes, concerns, and challenges faced by each generation.
We can’t wait to meet you!
